Hello again, it was an unexpected two weeks. I had the pleasure of hearing from Tim Kasher from Cursive randomly. He wanted help with Cursive’s Domestica re-issue and we ended up chatting for a couple of hours. I needed it. Yesterday, the podcast going track by track through the record was released. It was an unexpected email and our conversation out of the track by track was inspiring. Truly, a blessing. Check that out here or listen wherever you dig podcasts. Next Thursday, for those fans of WUER (Washed Up Emo Radio) on Spotify, I’ll be releasing a radio show edit so you can listen along to Domestica.
I also unexpectedly had new both good and bad come my way since we last spoke. This is just how life is going to send things my way for a bit. I have a tendency to think the worst for most things. Surprisingly, the good arrived in a giant box of zines from the late 90s from a friend in NYC unexpectedly, no questions, just knew I’d want it. Can’t wait to dive into these and share.
Thanks to Tim Kasher and my friend in NYC for reaching out without a goal or need with the outcome being a shared experience about things we care about.
Recommendations
A few things to add to the New Emo Music playlist and a few others worth diving into this weekend.
Music
Tigers Jaw announced a new EP called Old Clothes (Out October 28th) and the song of the same name. Always been a fan of the band and happy they’re still going. Catch em on tour with Gaslight Anthem now.
Armor for Sleep have a new album out today on Equal Vision called The Rain Museum, their first in 15 years! I had the pleasure of working with them on What To Do When You Are Dead when I was working at EVR and it’s amazing to see them back together and doing it again. I put on the 2nd track "How Far Apart” on the playlist.
Rocky Votolato has a new album out today on Spartan Records, called Wild Roots. I featured a track and it’s worth throwing a new one in there too. Check out “Glory (Broken Dove)”
Chuck Ragan released The Blueprint Sessions recently and it’s worth checking out. From Chuck’s words on his Bandcamp, “This collection of recordings was originally released in 2007 as a limited CD that was available exclusively to the subscribers of The Blueprint Sessions series of 7" records. These songs have all been remastered, and after 15 years, are finally available again!” Picked “So Far Broken” for the playlist.
Built to Spill released When The Wind Forgets Your Name today and it was worth putting on the 2nd track off this called “Gonna Lose.”
Cursive released today as mentioned above a remastered version of Domestica. With that fun, I wanted to add in “The Night I Lost the Will to Fight,”
Vitreous Humor is releasing their self-titled EP and Live at Fireside Bowl in October, thought if you pre-order now you can jam two songs and support a pioneer from the emo scene.
Youth League - A new band that sent in an email to Washed Up Emo contact page! Check out the video for "Nineteen Ninety Nine,” taken from the upcoming album Somehow Those Were Days out Sept 2022 on Wiretap Records.
Death Cab for Cutie - I have a soft spot for this band, even with Ben saying now to the podcast. They have a new record called asphalt meadows out September 16th and the song “Here to Forever” hits pretty hard right about now.
Books / Other
Mogwai (Book) - Stuart Braithwaite wrote a book about a band I listen to when I want to escape to the stars. Looks like his dad built ways for you to see the stars. Learn more about the book here. It’s available digitally later this month or physically in the states come January.
Brainiac (Documentary) - My friend that cuts my hair mentioned that the documentary was streaming for free on Tubi and I dove in last night. It’s amazing and tragic. Music for us in a nutshell. Take a min and enjoy watching commercials during it like the 90s.

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
See you soon,
Tom
Sending the love, Tom!
Thanks for the new music! Hope all is well!
